Thanks to all who attended today’s Outdoor Meeting 22 July 2018 to Oare Marshes and local areas.
We had a lovely sunny day with a nice cool breeze most of the time and apart from some heat-haze the light was fabulous with the sun behind us.
Arriving at high tide 07:59 the East Flood was packed with birds particularly waders and we soon found the adult Temminck’s Stint that was present most of the morning allowing good views, we found another stint distantly but couldn’t be sure of its identity. Other interesting shorebirds included an adult mostly red Curlew Sandpiper, Greenshank, 8 Common and 1 Green Sandpipers, 10 Golden Plovers, 5 Little Ringed Plovers, 6 Whimbrel, 12 Ruff and numerous Black-tailed Godwits.
Other species included splendid views of the adult Bonaparte’s Gull still showing a mostly black-hood, a male Yellow Wagtail, 2 Turtle Doves, Little Owl, several Bearded Tits and a migrant Willow Warbler.
Invertebrates were exciting with all of us getting a new dragonfly with seeing 10+ Southern Migrant Hawkers as well as Emperor, Common and Ruddy Darters, butterflies included 3 Clouded Yellows and a Marbled White.
Plant-life included an impressive stand of Lesser Burdock.
