Red sky in morning, shepherds warning.........

The sky was crimson in North Kent as dawn broke on Sunday 19th December for our (KOS) final field trip of 2022. How accurate was that old country saying,  as the day consisted of two halves, bitterly cold in the morning and raining persistently with an increasing blow after lunch. (Incidentally this was the third wet outing in succession this year.!!!)

However, we still managed 62 species on Sheppey with a brace of Brambling, a fine vinous-coloured Dartford Warbler and a Short-eared Owl on Shellness beach as leading candidates for “bird of the day.”

Despite putting in the time we failed to see any Penduline Tits but we saw some really good numbers of other species - including winter thrushes.

We also enjoyed nice views of Brown Hares.

The dates for our first half of 2023 are now published and future trips are booking up fast. Members only!!!
