The Kent List

The Kent List

The Kent List is composed of all of those species that have been reported in Kent, and accepted by both the Kent Ornithological Society Records Committee (KOSRC) and the British Birds Rarities Committee (BBRC), and are included on the official British kept by the British Ornithological Union Records Committee (BOURC).

The Kent List currently stands at 424 species.


Recent additions include:

Chinese Pond Heron, Ardeola bacchus, found in the Hythe/Saltwood area during January2014, has been accepted to Category A of the British List by the BOURC. This was a Kent first.

Acadian Flycatcher, Empidonax virescens, found at Dungeness in September 2015, has been accepted to Category A of the British List by the BOURC. This was a Kent first.

The 2016 Otford Rufous Turtle Dove, Streptopelia orientalis, has been accepted to Category A of the British List by the BOURC. This was a Kent first.

The 2017 Little Murston Pine Bunting, Emberiza leucocephalos, has been accepted by the BBRC. This was a Kent first.

The 2016 Stodmarsh Franklin’s Gull, Larus pipixcan, is currently in circulation with the BBRC for adjudication.

The American White Ibis, Eudocimus albus, first seen at Sevenoaks in November 2014 has been added to Category E of the British List by the BOURC.


The Species

The systematic sequence of this list follows that recommended by the British Ornithologists Union (BOU, Feb. 2015), and contains the accepted species of birds published by the BBRC and KOSRC in Kent.
