The Kent List

The Kent List

The Kent List is composed of all of those species that have been reported in Kent, and accepted by both the Kent Ornithological Society Records Committee (KOSRC) and the British Birds Rarities Committee (BBRC), and are included on the official British List kept by the British Ornithological Union Records Committee (BOURC).

The British List follows that published by the British Ornithologists Union (BOU, Dec. 2017), following the sequence recommended by the International Ornithological Congress (IOC).

The following three species have been/are in circulation with the British Birds Rarities Committee (BBRC). These are –

Falcated Duck, Anas falcata.
In 2003 a drake was present at West Hythe and Lympne from 15th April until 14th June. The BBRC have accepted this only onto Category D, i.e. of uncertain origin.

Pied Crow, Corvus albus.
A bird, first seen coming in off the sea at Joss Bay on 6th May 2019, wandered the north Kent coast as far west as Swalecliffe until 21st. A potential first for the UK and Kent.

Brown Booby, Sula leucogaster.
A record from Swalecliffe on 19th August 2019 was viewed distantly and photographed. This bird has been accepted by the BBRC, and is currently with the BOURC for categorization. This is a potential first for the UK and Kent.

The Kent List currently stands at 423 species.

Inclusions:
Records from Kent Bird Report 2018
Records from BBRC WIP, 19th June 2020
