Kent Dolphin

The Kent Dolphin Project is reaching out to ask for your help in gathering vital data on dolphins, porpoises and whales in Kent. The Kent Dolphin Project is a collaboration between Sussex Dolphin Project and Adonis Blue Environmental Consultants (part of Kent Wildlife Trust).

By reporting sightings of dolphins, porpoises, and whales in Kent waters, you will help us to better understand their movements, behaviours, and important areas. This information is essential to protect our marine environment and safeguard these incredible animals for future generations.

Citizen science - where members of the public share their sightings - is one of the most powerful conservation tools we have. Whether you’re out fishing, walking the coast, or enjoying the sea, your observations matter. If you spot a marine mammal, simply fill in our form at: https://kentdolphinproject.org/

  • The key information we will be looking out for is:Species (Dolphin, Porpoise, or Seal)
  • Number of animals
  • Location (Ideally coordinates, or nearest landmark)
  • If there were any juveniles present
  • Behaviour (swimming, jumping, interacting with boats, feeding, resting)
  • Time and date of sighting

Any photographs or videos are helpful to allow us to verify the species and add to our database. Clear images or videos are especially helpful, as they allow us to identify individuals and pods, and understand critical habitats for the survival of these populations.

Even if you are unsure of the exact time, location, or species, your sighting still matters. If you have photos or video, we may be able to identify the species ourselves. Every report is added to our database and helps us build a clearer picture of where these animals are and how they live. By sharing what you have seen, you are directly contributing to the long-term conservation efforts of these charismatic marine mammals.

Spot it. Report it. Protect it.

Thank you for supporting marine conservation in Kent.

Kind regards,
