There were again plenty of migrants around in Kent this week, with a Hoopoe at Abbott's Cliffe on the 26th the highlight. There were two Wrynecks, one at Dungeness on the 22nd and one at North Foreland on the 26th. A couple of Bee-eaters were seen flying over on the 21st near Dover and the 22nd at Walmer. Again several Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts, Spotted Flycatchers and Tree pipits were seen, while there was a significant fall of Whinchats, with 25+ at Sandwich on the 27th.  A lovely Wood Warbler was at Dungeness on the 22nd.

The White-winged Tern at Stodmarsh was last seen on the 21st while the juvenile at Burrowes, Dungeness, stayed all week. The juvenile Purple Heron was seen occasionally at Stodmarsh throughout the week, while the Bonaparte's Gull remained at Oare. There were five Curlew Sandpipers at Pegwell, three in Faversham Creek and two at Dungeness

Sea-watching was good. The highlight was an adult winter Sabine's Gull at Oare on the 21st, although two Puffin past North Foreland on the 24th were also good. A Balearic Shearwater flew past North Foreland on the 26st, while a Long-tailled Skua and Great Northern Diver were also seen there earlier in the week. Dungeness recorded two Sooty Shearwater, although the highlight was probably thousands of Sandwich Tern flying past on the 24th.

Raptor sightings included several Honey Buzzard in the Dover and Dungeness areas and half a dozen Osprey, but 305 Common Buzzard recorded over North Foreland on the 26th was probably the most unusual.

September is around the corner, good luck!
